  • Description

President Moktar Ould Daddah of Mauritania formally opened the Arab Mauritanian-Libyan Bank in Nouakchott on Wednesday (29 November). Mauritania has a 49 per cent share, with Libya holding the rest.

At the inauguration Mr. Mohammed El Maghrihi, Libya's Ambassador to Mauritania, said the bank would help free Mauritania from the grip of foreign capitalists, and would help encourage investment by Mauritanians.

Relations between the two nations have become closer recently. Culture and Information Minister Ahmed Ould Sidi Baba left on the day of the bank's opening to attend a meeting in Tripoli of the Mauritanian-Libyan mixed commission to promote co-operation between the countries.
