SYNOPSIS: United States President, Richard Nixon held talks with Israeli President Zalman Shazar in Washington on Friday.

President Shazar was one of several Heads of State and Ministers to call on the U.S. President. Thirty-five ministers and envoys were in the U.S. capital to pay a final tribute to the late President Harry Truman in Washington's National Cathedral, later in the day.

The meeting between President Shazar and Mr. Nixon was clearly cordial, with the U.S. President even escorting the Israeli leader to his car, but it's not known what the two men discussed.

The meeting between the two leaders also marks one of the first times President Nixon has been seen in public since his re-election at the end of November. He has, reportedly, been in isolation, drawing up plans for his new administration. The relationship between the U.S. and Israel -- which has been strong in the past -- was probably one of the main points the two leaders discussed.
