  • Description

President Idi Amin of Uganda has marked the first anniversary of his military coup on the 25th January 1971 by releasing 3,000 prisoners in Government and local authority jails.

This film shows men being released at Luzira central prison, among them 70 year-old Mr. Misaki Kisulen, who was sentenced only 20 months ago to life imprisonment for the attempted murder of ex-President Milton Obote.

SYNOPSIS: In a statement broadcast on Tuesday by Radio Uganda, General Amin said that all but 15 of the military detainees held since last January's coup were also being released this week. Earlier, he said he had decided on the amnesty partly to mark the anniversary, and also because of the drastic drop in crime in Uganda over the past year.
