U.S.President Lyndon Johnson met in Kansas City, Missouri with former president Harry S.Truman on Friday morning (25 June).Mr.Johnson took a Truman style stroll before meeting the former president for breakfast.Then the President left for San Francisco.
The President got up early after arriving in Kansas City from Washington late Thursday night.He went for a half-hour stroll around the city, accompanied by newsmen, in a manner reminiscent of the morning strolls taken by Mr.Truman when he was president.
Then Mr.Johnson met Mr.Truman in the lobby of the Muehlebach Hotel and the two men had a private breakfast.Afterwards the two presidents held a brief news conference.Mr.Johnson said the two had discussed Vietnam, the United States, and some of the major decisions Mr.Truman had made when he was president.Mr.Truman observed that "No president in my historical memory has made the impression in the beginning that Mr.Johnson has."
Then Mr.Johnson left for San Francisco and his speech at the United Nations 20th anniversary.He indicated he would fly over the flood-stricken areas of western Kansas for a personal survey of the damage there on the way.
Mr Truman was president of the United States twenty years ago when the United States was organized in San Francisco.
