Background: John Sherwood of England equalled the Scottish all-comers record with a time of 50 seconds when he won a gold medal in the 400 metres men's hurdles event at the Commonwealth Games today.
Sherwood, in lane number six, took the lead halfway through the race and went on to win, despite a strong challenge from both Koskei of Uganda and Yego of Kenya, who finished together a tenth of a second behind Sherwood.
Koskei's effort to hit the tape caused him to fall on the track, but he was unhurt.
