    THE WORLD FAMOUS CRAVEN COLLECTION OF JEWELLERY, OWNED BY THE LATE COUNTESS OF CRAVEN, WAS SHOWN TO THE PRESS NOVEMBER 28 AT SOTHEBY'S AUCTION ROOMS, LONDON, WHERE IT WILL BE SOLD ON NOVEMBER 30.

    IN ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SIX LOTS - INCLUDING SOME OF THE FRENCH CROWN JEWELS - THE COLLECTION IS BEING SOLD "BY ORDER OF THE EXECUTORS OF CORNELIA, COUNTESS CRAVEN". IT WILL ATTRACT BUYERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND SHOULD CREATE NEW RECORDS IN JEWELLERY SALES.

    HEAVILY GUARDED BY SECURITY MEN, A MODEL WAS FIRST FILMED WEARING A MAGNIFICENT TIARA IN RUBIES AND DIAMONDS ORDERED BY KING LOUIS XVIII FOLLOWING THE RESTORATION. DESIGNED BY EVERARD BAPST, THE FRENCH CROWN JEWELLER, IT WAS COMPLETED IN 1816 AND WORN SUCCESSIVELY BY THE ROYAL PRINCESSES AND LATTERLY BY THE EMPRESS EUGENIE. IT WAS PURCHASED IN 1887 BY THE LATE COUNTESS OF CRAVEN'S FATHER. TWO OTHER PIECES FROM THE FRENCH CROWN JEWELS: ROUND HER NECK, THE MODEL IS PIECES FROM THE FRENCH CROWN JEWELS: ROUND HER NECK, THE MODEL IS WEARING A NECKLACE OF RUBIES AND DIAMONDS, AND A PAIR OF FINE AND IMPORTANT RUBY AND DIAMOND BRACELETS ADORN HER WRISTS.

    THE SECOND TIARA SHOWN IS OF GREAT ELEGANCE. THE BASE CONSISTS OF TWENTY-FIVE CIRCULAR-CUT DIAMONDS, SET IN INDIVIDUAL COLLETS AND REGULARLY SPACED, SUPPORTING VERTICAL PLUME-LIKE SECTIONS OF SIMILAR STONES. THIS WAS PURCHASED IN PARIS IN 1889 BY THE LATE COUNTESS'S FATHER. THE DIAMOND EARRINGS HAVE AN INTERESTING HISTORY. ACCORDING TO FAMILY TRADITION, THEY WERE FORMERLY THE PROPERTY OF MRS. FITZHERBERT (1756-1837) WHOSE MARRIAGE TO THE PRINCE OF WALES (AFTERWARDS GEORGE IV) WAS DEFINITELY ESTABLISHED.
