  • Description

In Australia, cyclone Kerry swept through northern Queensland on Thursday (1 March), leaving a trail of floods and damage estimated at ten million Australian dollars (11,299,000 U.S. dollars). In the coastal city of Mackay, more than twenty-six houses had their roofs torn off, or suffered severe damage. Newspaper reports said that, miraculously,no-one was injured. The Weather Bureau in Brisbane, the state capital, described Cyclone Kerry as the most erratic they had charted in the past ten years. John Fidler, a Mackay based reporter for Brisbane's Channel seven, described the destruction.
