  • Description

THE 24-COUNTRY UNITED NATIONS COMMITTEE ON COLONIALISM, MEETING IN DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA, HEARD ALLEGATIONS ON WEDNESDAY THAT AUTHORITIES IN RHODESIA AND BRITISH-PROTECTED SWAZILAND WERE HELPING TO ARREST MOZAMBIQUE REFUGEES AND RETURN THEM TO THE PORTUGUESE.

THE COMMITTEE RECEIVED PETITIONS FROM THE MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT (FRELIMO) CLAIMING THAT, SINCE 1961, RHODESIA "HAS BEEN USED BY THE PORTUGUESE SECRET POLICE TO HUNT MOZAMBIQUE REFUGEES, ARREST THEM AND SEND BACK TO MOZAMBIQUE" WITH RHODESIA ITSELF TAKING PART "IN THIS IN HUMAN AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITY."

COMMITTEE, MR. SORI COULIBALY OF MALI, DECLARED: "WE WILL DO OUR UTMOST TO SEE SOUTH WEST AFRICA BECOMES AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY."
