    The Cambodian Prime Minister, General Lon Nol, returned to Phnom Penh on Monday (12 April) after spending two months in Hawaii recovering from a stroke.

    At Phnom Penh airport, a large crowd greeted the General -- led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Prince Sisowath Sirik Matak, who has been standing in for the General during his illness.

    Until he suffered his stroke in early February, General Lon Nol was said to have worked 18 to 20 hours each day, combining the premiership with the key Defence Ministry portfolio.

    SYNOPSIS: A large crowd gathered at Phnom Penh airport on Monday to welcome Cambodian Prime Minister General Lon Nol. The general had just returned from Hawaii, where he had spent two months recovering from a stroke suffered in February. Prince Sirik Matak, who has been standing in for the General during his illness, arrived to greet the Cambodian Premier.

    General Lon No., who arrived in a Untied States Navy aircraft, was said to have worked eighteen to twenty hours a day before his stroke-- combining the premiership and the key defence Ministry portfolio. He was helped down the steps of the aircraft to be greeted by Prince Sirik Matak and other officials
    Newsmen surged around the General as he reached the tarmac. He greeted soldiers and several members of the diplomatic corps, headed by United States Ambassador Emory Swank, and Cambodian Armed Forces Chiefs.

    The Premier was then taken twenty yards by wheelchair to his waiting car. He then drove off with an escort of jeeps and armoured cars.
