PRESIDENT DIORI AND HIS WIFE WERE LUNCHEON GUESTS OF THE FRENCH HEAD OF STATE. HE TOLD NEWSMEN AFTERWARDS THAT THEIR DISCUSSIONS HAD CENTRED ON THE RENEWAL OF THE YAOUNDE AGREEMENT WHICH GOVERNS THE ASSOCIATION OF 18 AFRICAN COUNTRIES WITH THE COMMON MARKET.

PRESIDENT DIORI, WHO IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRO-MALAGASY CO-OPERATION, SAID HIS TALKS WITH GENERAL DE GAULLE AND MEMBERS OF THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT HAD CONVINCED HIM THAT FRANCE WAS "WORKING WHOLEHEARTEDLY FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE AGREEMENT" AND ADDED THAT HE WAS SEEKING RENEWAL OF THE AGREEMENT ON MORE FAVOURABLE TERMS. HE SAID HE HOPED THERE WOULD BE AN INCREASE IN AID TO TAKE ACCOUNT OF DEVELOPMENTS IN THE ECONOMIC POSITION OF THE AFRICAN STATES, PARTICULARLY IN THE CASE OF THOSE COUNTRIES IN THE FRANC ZONE. PRESIDENT DIORI SAID HE WANTED TO SEE THE SETTING UP OF A STABILISATION FUND DESIGNED TO GUARANTEE PRICES OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS IN ALL AFRICAN COUNTRIES.
