AT THE QUAYSIDE, LEADING MEMBERS OF THE MOZAMBIQUE ADMINISTRATION TOGETHER WITH MILITARY CHIEFS, WAITED TO SALUTE PRESIDENT TOMAZ. DRESSED IN HIS WHITE NAVAL UNIFORM, HE CAME ASHORE FROM THE "PRINCIPLE PERFEITO". AFTER INSPECTING A GUARD OF HONOUR, THE PRESIDENT THEN BEGAN HIS TRIUMPHANT DRIVE THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE MOZAMBIQUE CAPITAL.
PORTUGAL IS SAID TO ATTACH PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE TO THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT AS A MEANS OF STRENGTHENING MOZAMBIQUE'S SENSE OF IDENTITY WITH WHAT IS TERMED THE "GREAT PORTUGUESE FAMILY" OF OVERSEAS TERRITORIES. HIS VISIT IS EXPECTED TO LAST FOR TWO WEEKS.
