  • Description

THREE HUNDRED MALAYAN BUDDHISTS ATTENDED A MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD IN KUALA LUMPUR ON SEPTEMBER 8 IN HONOUR OF BUDDHIST MONKS NA NUNS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR RELIGION IN SOUTH VIETNAM.

AMONG THE CROWD WERE THE MINISTER FOR WORKS, POSTS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND TWO SENATORS.

A BUDDHIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY SPOKESMAN SAID "THE PLIGHT OF OUR BUDDHIST BRETHREN IN SOUTH VIETNAM, WHO ARE CARRYING ON THEIR UNEQUAL STRUGGLE WITH SUCH RESTRAINT AND HEROISM MUST CERTAINLY TOUCH THE HEART OF EVERY BUDDHIST."
BUDDHIST ASSOCIATIONS HERE WILL PRESENT AN APPEAL TO THE PRIME MINISTER, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, ASKING HIM TO INTERCEDE ON BEHALF OF THE BUDDHIST FRATERNITY IN SOUTH VIETNAM TO END THE RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION THERE.

THE TUNKU, WHO HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE GROWING FEELING OF SYMPATHY BY MALAYAN BUDDHISTS FOR THEIR VIETNAMESE COUNTERPARTS, SAID THAT HE WOULD CONTACT THE VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT ON THE MATTER.
