    Background: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

As competitors begin arriving for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, security in the complex has been stepped up. Heavily armed Special Weapons and Tactic (SWAT) teams have been stationed at the airport. Since the arrival last week of the of the 60-member Israel team together with participants from China, South Korean and several other countries the university campuses to be used as accommodation have been heavily guarded and closed to the public. Along with the security preparations the facilities for the vast army of media people have been completed. A satellite dish has been installed to enable pictures of the Games to be seen all over the world. Electronic surveillance equipment has been set up to enable security officials to monitor the entire Olympic complex. Some 18,000 Los Angeles police and private security guards have been employed to patrol the competition sites and the three Olympic villages. Despite the fears for the competitors' safety, the arrival of the Olympic torch in the city was greeted by thousands of people. Football star O.J. Simpson was one of the four thousand people who have carried the torch through 33 states to its destination. He handed over to one of the many handicapped people who have taken part in the relay.
