    TUNISIAN HEAD OF STATE HABIB BOURGUIBA SAID IN TUNIS YESTERDAY THAT AFRICAN UNITY COULD NOT BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT THE DISAPPEARANCE OF COLONIALISM FROM PORTUGUESE TERRITORIES, SOUTH AFRICA, RHODESIA AND SOUTH-WEST AFRICA. PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA, SPEAKING AT A BANQUET IN HONOUR OF VISITING PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY, OF THE IVORY COAST, SAID THAT THE MIDDLE EAST SITUATION CONSTITUTED A THREAT TO WORLD PEACE AND THAT IT WAS FOR THE UNITED NATIONS AND THE GREAT POWERS AT THE ROOT OF THE CONFLICT TO FIND AN EQUITABLE SOLUTION.

    PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY, WHO HAD EARLIER BEEN ACCORDED A ROUSING WELCOME WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE START OF AN EIGHT-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT, SAID IN REPLY THAT THE TWO COUNTRIES SHOULD CO-ORDINATE MORE CLOSELY IN TRADE AND PRESENT AN IMAGE OF SOLIDARITY TO THE INDUSTRIALISED COUNTRIES.

    PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY AND HIS WIFE FULFILLED SEVERAL ENGAGEMENTS DURING THE FIRST DAY OF THEIR VISIT. THEY WERE SCHEDULED TO STAY IN TUNISIA FOR A WEEK.
