Background: Japanese challenger Koichi Wajima scored an upset, unanimous-points victory over Oscar Albarado of the United States in the World Boxing Association Junior Middleweight Championship title fight in Tokyo on Tuesday night (21 January).

Wajima took seven of the 15 rounds and Albarado won three; five were even.

The defender was apparently confused by Wajima's bobbing, weaving style. He tried hard to score with overhand rights to the face, but Wajima continually ducked away from the flying fist.

The challenger also often scored well with a straight left to the jaw followed by slashing left-and-right attacks to the body.

Wajima won back the title he had lost to Albarado in the same stadium last June when he was knocked down three times in the final (15th) round.
