  • Description

Darwin, the gateway settlement of northern Australia, was the scene recently of a moving re-union between Wladislaw Motyl and the wife he had last seen 18 years ago. He carried a welcoming bouquet of white Lilies, bound with red and white ribbons - the national colurs of their native Poland. Mr. Motyl and his wife were engaged when the Germans invaded Poland. He went to war in a tank division, was captures and held prisoner for five years. This was their first meeting since 1939.. Mr. Motyl was selected for migration after the war, having lost all contact with his fiancee. But two years ago she learned he was still alive and their old friendship was resumed. Mr. Motyl's brother acted in a proxy wedding in Poland which allowed them to be re-united in Australia. Mr. Motyl has been working with the Air Force in Darwin.
