  • Description

While Japanese Premier Eisaku was addressing the Japanese Parliament Saturday, August 3, making a low key pitch for more military power for that country, the fleet was visiting Chile.

The ships Akuziki, Uranami, Ayanami and Harusame landed at the Chilean port of Tongoy in the north of the country. These are the first warships the fleet went to Valparaiso.

The Japanese visit was during an instruction trip of their marine guard. The fleet returned a former visit to the Japanese ports of the Chilean trainer ship "Esmeralda."
