Mr. Carret Fitzgerald, the Irish foreign minister and current chairman of the European Economic Community?
Mr. Carret Fitzgerald, the Irish foreign minister and current chairman of the European Economic Community (EEC) ministerial council, arrived this morning at the lebanese border post of Masnaa in Lebanon coming by car from Damascus.
Mr. Fitzgerald who visited Jordan and Syria and who is due to visit Egypt after Lebanon will meet lebanese president Franjieh later today.
Observers here believe that his talks with the lebanese officials will deal with the recant signing of a trade agreement between EEC and Israel which raised strong controversy in the arab world.
Lebanon has signed on 18/12/1972 a five year preferential trade agreement which was due to take effect on Jan 1st 73. At the time the lebanese ambassador to EEC Mr Kesrouan Labaki said the accord would speed up the industrial and agricultural development of Lebanon thru increased trade with the EEC
