Background: Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon held his first round of talks with French Foreign Minister Jean Sauvagnargues in Paris on Monday (28 April). He said progress had been made in the search for peace in the Middle East.
Mr. Allon, the first Israeli Cabinet Minister to visit French since Israel's creation in 1948, said: "To us Israelis, France means a lot in many ways. And I am very glad I can be here today".
Mr. Allon, who had arrived earlier in the day, will stay in France for five days. He is returning a visit by m. Sauvagnargues to Israel six months ago.
The Israeli Minister was due to meet President Giscard d'Estaing on Tuesday (29 April).
