Background: Hundreds of factory workers staged a demonstration march through the streets of Beirut on Monday (13 November) in protest at the death over the weekend of two people during a clash with Lebanese security forces.

The demonstrators, escorted by a strong force of police, marched peacefully from the outskirts of the capital to Parliament carrying placards and chanting such slogans as 'Bullets for the enemy--not the people.'
On Tuesday (14 November) workers in Beirut and suburbs observed a general strike in protest against the deaths of the two people, which occurred on Saturday when strikers at a chocolate and biscuit factory clashed with security men while blocking the street outside their factory with blazing tyres. The victims were a worker and a woman passer-by.
