    THE FIRST ETHIOPIAN AMBASSADOR TO GHANA, MR. ATO PETRES, HAS TAKEN UP THE POST AGAIN ELEVEN YEARS AFTER HIS FIRST APPOINTMENT. IN A CEREMONY IN ACCRA RECENTLY HE PRESENTED HIS CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSION.

    MR. PETRES SAID HE WAS HAPPY AND HONOURED TO BE BACK IN GHANA AFTER HIS LONG ABSENCE. HE EXPRESSED THE HOPE THAT THE ALREADY FRIENDLY RELATIONS BETWEEN ETHIOPIA AND GHANA WOULD BE STRENGTHENED.

    REPLYING TO MR. PETRES, THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSION, BRIGADIER AFRIFA, SAID THAT THE TWO COUNTRIES SHARED A COMMON PAST ROOTED IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR EMANCIPATION FROM FOREIGN DOMINATION AND IN THE QUEST FOR FREEDOM AND PROSPERITY OF THEIR PEOPLES.

    THE ETHIOPIAN CAPITAL OF ADDIS ABABA IS THE SEAT OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN UNITY. BRIGADIER AFRIFA SAID THAT IN SPITE OF ITS LIMITATIONS THE ORGANISATION COULD APTLY BE DESCRIBED AS AFRICA'S GREATEST HOPE FOR PROGRESS AND ECONOMIC EMANCIPATION.

    AMONG THOSE PRESENT TO WITNESS MR. PETRES PRESENT HIS CREDENTIALS WERE THE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMISSION, MR. HARLLEY AND THE FIRST SECRETARY OF THE ETHIOPIAN EMBASSY, MR. TEFERRA.
