    British Foreign Secretary James Callaghan, on the last leg of his extensive African tour, held wide-ranging talks with Nigerian head of state General Yakubu Gowon on Friday (January 10).

    Once again, the most important topic under discussion was the Rhodesia situation, with General Gowon welcoming recent moves towards a peaceful solution of the Rhodesian constitutional crisis. Mr. Callaghan briefed him on his talks with leaders in Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa during his week-long African tour.

    The question of oil supplies to Britain and bilateral trade relations were also discussed.

    Later, at a Lagos news conference prior to leaving Africa, Mr. Callaghan said that his tour left his optimistic about prospects for a peaceful settlement to the Rhodesian crisis within the coming decade.
