  • Description

A fierce blaze in the old part of Copenhagen Oct 2, burned down Denmark's oldest brewery - the "King's Brewery House" Reports said it was caused by a 17-year-old youth experimenting with his first box of matches. He was unable to say why he had lit the fire when arrested.

The 350-year old "King's Brewery House" was five storeys high and used as a warehouse. Despite exhaustive efforts by the local fire brigade, the building was completely destroyed.

They saturated the building with water and smoke from the brewery - the first ever to burn down in Denmark - covered a large part of Copenhagen. It was estimated to be weeks before the debris would be cleared.
