  • Description

AT THE ACCRA TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTRE, THE GHANA WOMEN'S SOCIETY FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS MET ON THURSDAY (10 APRIL) TO DISCUSS PROPOSALS FOR THE GHANA CONSTITUTION.

MRS. SUSSANE DE GRAFT-JOHNSON, THE SOCIETY'S REPRESENTATIVE AT THE CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY, SAID SHE WOULD PRESENT POINTS ON THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND THE FAMILY TO THE VARIOUS COMMITTEES OF THE ASSEMBLY.

SHE ASSURED THE AUDIENCE THAT SHE WOULD FIGHT FOR THE PROVISIONS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE FINAL CONSTITUTION.

MRS. DE GRAFT-JOHNSON APPEALED TO WOMEN TO MEET REGULARLY TO DISCUSS PROBLEMS FACING THEM.

THE CHAIRMAN, MRS. JUSTICE ANNIE JIAGGE, A HIGH COURT JUDGE, SAID THE FINAL CONSTITUTION MUST NOT BE TOO LENGTHY, BUT ADDED THAT THEY MUST NOT SACRIFICE IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR MERE BREVITY.

READING OUT PORTIONS OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS WHICH DEAL WITH MARRIAGE AND CHILD CARE, MRS. JIAGGE ADVISED THAT THEY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE CONSTITUTION PROPOSALS.
