  • Description

French Foreign Minister, Maurice Couve de Murville, on a two-day visit to New Delhi, discussed the situation in Laos with the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Nehru, Apl 3. He was on his way home from the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation conference on Laos, held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.

    M. Couve de Murville was accompanied by his wife. After the talks, he said the Soviet reply to the British Note opened the road to new discussions. The Note was in no way "a negative answer". Mr. Nehru said there was "some hope left" for a cease-fire in Laos.

Earlier in the day, M. Couve de Murville went to the tomb of Mahatma Ghandi to lay a wreath.
