  • Description

The Italian Prime Minister, Signor Fanfani, and his Foreign Minister Signor Segni, had a 1 1/2-hour meeting March 21 at Como, Italy, with the West German Chancellor, Dr Adenauer.

After the meeting, which took place in closed session in the Prefecture building, it was announced that both heads of government had "reaffirmed their determination to pursue a policy of assistance to the underdeveloped countries, of defence of world peace and security, and particularly of giving firm support to the political and economic integration of Europe."
It was said that suggestions made by Mr Harriman, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large, were discussed as well as the programme of relations between Britain and the Six.

Following the conversation between Signor Fanfani and Dr Adenauer - who is spending a holiday at Griante, near Cadenabbia - there was a full meeting between the Italian and West German delegations.
