    Dave Bedford, a 21-year-old Londoner, become the second-fastest 5,000 metres runner in athletics history on Saturday (12 June) when he covered the distance in 13 minutes 22.2 seconds at an Edinburgh meeting. Running on the track at Meadowbank Stadium...venue of last year's Commonwealth Games.....Bedford finished the event half a lap ahead of the rest of the field. Bedford hopes to break the six-year-old world record established by Australian Ron Clarke, but to do so will have to further improve his time by 5.6 seconds. Saturday's race was run in cold blustery conditions.
