    Nearly one thousand people of all races took part in a charity walk near Kampala on Sunday (26 March), to raise money for the construction of the Rubaga Boys School hostel and library.

    The walk was organised by the Uganda Guides Post and among the walkers were diplomates, senior army officers, government officials and people from all walks of life, including children as young as five years of age. The walk was headed by Uganda's Minister of Labour, Mr. Abu Mayanja.

    Headed by the Police Band, the walk covered some twenty miles (30 kms) and took five hours.

    SYNOPSIS: Uganda's Minister of Labour, Mr. Abu Mayanja, starting the participants in a charity walk in Kampala on Sunday. Nearly one thousand people of all races took part in the walk which was organised by the Uganda Guides Post, to raise funds for the construction of the Rubaga Boys School hostel and library. Headed by the Police Band, the walk covered some twenty miles in and around the capital city of Kampala--taking five hours to complete. The walkers--who were sponsored by leading commercial companies--comprised people from all walks of life, including diplomats, senior army officers, members of the Government, and even very small children.

    At the end of the walk, the participants' cards were drawn in a raffle for prizes awarded by the sponsors. Top individual prize was a bicycle. And the cup for the school which sponsored the highest number of people went to Lincoln's School.
