    The Lebanese Ministry of Defence claims that eight Israeli fighter-bombers attacked villages and districts in Southern Lebanon on Tuesday (21 May), killing one young girl and wounding 21 other. Most of the wounded were also children.

    The Ministry said two Israeli formations, each consisting of four American-made Phantom aircraft, strafed north-east Bayyada in the Arqoub Region, and the district of Mahrouna township and Deir Aamess in the Tyre area.

    Among the village that suffered in the attack were Ain Qinya, Zaghla, Mines and Kfair. The villagers said the raid lasted about fifteen minutes. The Israelis were thought to have attacked what they believed were Palestinian Commando positions.

    The girl who died was eight years old and lived in the village of Ain Qinya. Several houses in the village and the local school were badly damaged.

    Earlier in the day, Lebanese forces in the Arquob area, exchanged artillery fire with Israeli troops when an Israeli patrol was sighted on high ground on the other side of the border. The Defence Ministry said later that five Lebanese soldiers had been slightly wounded during the incident.

    SYNOPSIS: The people of Ain Qinya in Southern Lebanon, inspected their damaged village the day after the latest Israeli air raid on areas near the southern border. The raid, on Tuesday, killed one small girl and inured twentyone -- twenty of them were children. Three other villages in the area were also hit.

The Lebanese Ministry of Defence later said eight Israeli fighter-bombers had taken part in the raid. The planes struck in two formations of four. The Israelis were believed to have attacked what they believed to have attacked what they believed were Palestinian Commando positions along the South Lebanese border.

    Earlier in the day, Lebanese forces in the Arqoub area exchanged artillery fire with israeli troops when they spotted an Israeli patrol on high ground across the border. Five Lebanese soldiers were slightly wounded during the incident according to the Defence Ministry.
