  • Description

At Cheng China Lake in Taiwan over the part few days, some 230 overseas Chinese have been attending a conference to discuss the development of tourism and the expansion of markets for Chinese-made handicrafts.

The atmosphere throughout the conference was casual and informal, with many of the delegates spending most of their time wandering around Cheng Ching Lake - one of the country's major tourist attractions.

The first day of the conference was devoted to plenary sessions and panel discussions. During the general assemblies, reports on each of the group discussions were heard, and these were followed by questions from the floor on various points covered.

The overseas delegates came from more than 20 countries and conferred closely with some seventy local tourism experts during the days of talks.

The conference was being hosted by the World Chinese Tourism Amity Conference - an organisations formed three years ago to promote Chinese culture abroad.

Busy schedules of talks left some of the delegates little time to see some of Taiwan's more popular tourist attractions, but entertainment at their hotels in the evenings was put on by the organisers.

Many of the overseas guests were scheduled to leave Taiwan for their home countries on Friday (6 October).
