    In Lusaka, the special United Nations conference on Namibian independence continued on Wednesday and Thursday (22 and 23 March) with speeches by various delegates. The U.N. Council for Namibia is concerned that the five Western nations on the Security Council are not getting anywhere with their Namibia independence talks with South Africa, and the emphasis during the first few days of the current conference was on speeding up the move towards self-rule. The Council President, Miss Gwendoline Konie of Zambia stressed the need to end South Africa's control of the territory.

    SYNOPSIS: The Chairman of the United Nations Committee on Decolonisation, Salim Salim, praised the Council's recommendations, contained in the Lusaka Declaration.
