ITALY HAS SINCE WON ITS SEMI-FINAL IN THE PURSUIT EVENT, AND WILL FACE ARGENTINA IN THE FINAL TOMORROW (SUNDAY).

    THE RUN-OFF FOR THE FINAL FORCED BY FREDBORG, WHO WON THE LEG OF THE TWO-LEG FINAL. BELGIUM'S ROBERT VAN LANCKER WON THE BRONZE MEDAL IN THE EVENT BY DEFEATING ITALY'S GIORDANO TURRINI IN A TWO-LEG RUN-OFF FOR THIRD PLACE.

    BORGHETTI CLOCKED 12.15 SECONDS TO DEFEAT FREDBORG, BUT TIMES FOR BOTH MEN IN BOTH LEGS OF THE FINAL HAD BEEN BETTER.

    IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HAD BEEN STAGED OUTSIDE EUROPE.
