THE COMMISSION IS INVESTIGATING THE ASSETS OF CERTAIN SPECIFIED PEOPLE. THE CHAIRMAN IS MRS. JUSTICE ANNIE JIAGGE, A HIGH COURT JUDGE.

    CROSS-EXAMINED BY MR. S.S. OKUNOR, A SENIOR STATE ATTORNEY, WHO IS COUNSEL FOR THE COMMISSION, MR. JANTUAH SAID THAT APART FROM A HOUSE HE IS BUILDING IN KUMASI, A COCOA FARM NEAR BIBIANA AND A PLOT OF LAND HE OWNS IN KUMASI, HE HAS NO IMMOVABLE PROPERTY. MR. JANTUAH WAS SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IMPRISONMENT LAST MONTH ON A CHARGE OF ACCEPTING 30,000 NEW CEDIS (GBP12,244 STERLING) AS A BRIBE FROM A BUSINESSMAN TO HELP HIM SECURE IMPORT LICENCES THROUGH THE FORMER MINISTER OF TRADE, MR. KWESI ARMAH.

    THE CHARGE AROSE FROM THE OLLENNU COMMISSION'S INVESTIGATION OF MALPRACTICES IN THE ISSUE OF IMPORT LICENCES.

    MR. JANTUAH, WHO HAD PRACTISED LAW IN BRITAIN FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, DENIED HAVING EVER TRANSFERRED MONEY ABROAD AND SAID THAT HE HAS NO BUSINESS INTERESTS OUTSIDE GHANA.
