  • Description

The Prime Minister of Angola, Senhor Lopo do Nascimento, returned home to Luanda on Wednesday (8 February) after visits to Rumania and East Germany. In Rumania the Angolan leader negotiated a 75-million-dollar credit from the Rumanian government. The credit was within the framework of an existing economic agreement. In East Germany Senhor Nascimento signed a co-operation agreement with the East German Communist party.

SYNOPSIS: The visit of Senhor Nascimento to East Germany was his second in four months. This time he spent three days in East Berlin on what the official East German news agency described as a working visit.

The Angolan Prime Minister spent most of his time in extensive talks with East German government officials, including the country's Deputy Premier, Herr Werner Krolikowski.

Out of the talks emerged a new co-operation accord between the ruling Angolan MPLA party of Senhor Nascimento and the East German Communist Party. Signing for the East German was Herr Werner Lamberz, the secretary of the Communist Party's central committee. The accord will last for two years. East Germany already provides substantial economic and military aid to Senhor Nascimento's left-wing government.
