    A SURPRISE WELCOME AWAITED THEM FROM PRINCESS ANNE WHO CAME FROM WINDSOR TO JOIN THE QUEEN MOTHER IN A PRIVATE WELCOME ABOARD THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE THE OFFICIAL GREETINGS BEGAN. CROWDS THEN CHEERED THE SMILING ROYAL COUPLE AS THEY DESCENDED FROM THE PLANE IN BRIGHT SUNSHINE.

    THE QUEEN AND PRINCE PHILIP WERE WELCOMED ON THE TARMAC BY PRIME MINISTER MACMILLAN, MEMBERS OF HIS GOVERNMENT, THE AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER. SIR ERIC HARRISON, AND THE NEW ZEALAND HIGH COMMISSIONER, SIR THOMAS MACDONALD.

    WHEN THE GREETINGS WERE OVER THE QUEEN MOTHER MADE HER TEMPORARY FAREWELLS AND DROVE AWAY SEPARATELY. PRINCESS ANNE THEN SAT BETWEEN THE MOTHER AND FATHER SHE'S NOT SEEN FOR EIGHT WEEKS FOR THE DRIVE TO WINDSOR CASTLE.

    WITH THE BREAK UP OF GORDONSTOUN SCHOOL FOR THE EASTER HOLIDAY, PRINCE CHARLES WAS TODAY FLYING SOUTH FROM DALCROSS AIRPORT. HE WAS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE IN LONDON THIS EVENING TO JOIN HIS PARENTS WHO WILL BE IN RESIDENCE AT WINDSOR UNTIL THE END OF APRIL.
