  • Description

In South China's Kwangtung Province, all is busy at the Artificial Fry Hatching Farm as summer sets in.

Fresh-water fishery has long history in China. However, the fries were never bred in captivity before and had to be procured from rivers and streams. The state of affairs could not cope with the sweeping developments following the establishment of people's communes which includes, among other things, the development of fishery. Since 1958, China has been successfully hatching fries under artificial conditions.

Here is how the artificial hatching is done. The matured fish is injected with a certain medical solution to hasten its spawning.

After fertilization, the spawns are put under artificial conditions to be hatched into fries. The success of hatching fries under artificial conditions is a notable achievement of Chinese scientific workers. It has resulted in big supplies of fries for the country's fast developing fresh water fishery.

The same method of hatching from fries has been popularised in many parts of China.
