    The United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, was due to leave South Africa on Friday (10 March) at the end of a visit which he has described as a breakthrough in relations between the United Nations and the South African Government.

    Dr. Waldheim has spent five days in South Africa and in Southwest Africa -- known in the United Nations as Namibia.

    During his visit, Dr. Waldheim toured the disputed territory of Namibia and before returning to Capetown he spoke at a news conference at Windhoek Airport.

    SYNOPSIS: The United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Waldheim has completed his visit to the disputed territory of Southwest Africa -- known in the United Nations as Namibia.

    Before flying to Capetown for final talks with South Africa's Prime Minister, Mr. Vorster, Dr. Waldheim spoke to newsmen.

    He met them at Windhock Airport.
