Horacio Accavallo successfully defended his world flyweight title in a championship bout in Buenos Aires on July 15th. The defeated Japanese challenger, Kiroyuki Ebihara, agreed that Accavallo had earned his 15-round decision.
"It was a hard fight, but I won fairly, " the Argentine champion said. Accavallo, making his first defense of the title, was cut around the right eye. After the 11th round he was examined by a physician before being permitted to continue.
"Accavallo was a just winner and I have no complaints," Ebihara said. The 26-year old challenger, who is six years younger than the champion, bled heavily from the nose as his opponent carried the attack to him in the final rounds.
Ebihara reinjured his left hand early in the fight and his doctor believed the fighter may have suffered a bone fracture.
Accavallo won the flyweight crown in March when he defeated another Japanese flyweight, Katuyoski Takayana, in Tokyo.
