ANDRE MICHELE KASHI: "As we stated in out last meeting, we again reiterate out preparation to negotiate with the Ethiopian government, if the Ethiopian government asserted its readiness to resolve the question peacefully, and declare its position on the principal of (indistinct) determination of the Eritrean people, withdraw its nine-policy programme of regional autonomy and accept to negotiate with the joint supreme political leadership of the E.P.L.F. and E.L.F. We are stressing on this point because the attaining of peace, the resolving of the problem, is primarily of interest to the Eritrean People and the Ethiopian people and being the two parties in question this problem can be solved only if there is a genuine preparedness to divide the resistance movement, possibly the Ethiopian movement, which is also an old move, is in their view, they think they can have some relations with one organisation - not to resolve the problem s such but in order to be able to crush one part of the movement and then resort to the other." Background: A representative of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) has told a meeting in Rome that the organisation is ready to start negotiations with the Ethiopian government. A member of the Front's central committee/ Andre-Michele Kashi, said that time and again the EPLF and the Eritrean people had stated their desire for a correct and just solution to the issue of control over Eritrea, in the Horn of Africa. Some reports say the EPLF is now in a stronger position than at any time in the past 18 months to take control of Eritrea.
