  • Description

ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER JUSTICE CHARLES CRABBE, SPEAKING AT THE EASTERN REGION HOUSE OF CHIEFS AT DODOWA ON THURSDAY (13 JUNE), ALLEGED THAT SOME PEOPLE WERE SELLING REGISTRATION FORMS FOR THE ELECTION.

COMMISSIONER CRABBE TOLD THE CHIEFS THAT MERE POSSESSION OF A REGISTRATION FORM WOULD NOT ENTITLE A PERSON TO VOTE. HIS OR HER NAME MUST APPEAR ON THE VOTERS' REGISTER.

THE COMMISSION WILL ENSURE, SAID MR CRABBE, THAT THE REGISTRATION FORMS ARE NOT USED FOR ANY ILLEGAL PURPOSES. THE CAMPAIGN AND THE FORTHCOMING GENERAL ELECTIONS MUST BE CONDUCTED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE TRUE SPIRIT OF DEMOCRACY WOULD BE REFLECTED IN GHANAIAN SOCIETY. HE APPEARED TO THE CHIEFS TO URGE THEIR PEOPLE TO EXAMINE THE PROMISES OR THE POLITICIANS CRITICALLY.

MR CRABBE SAID THAT IN ORDER TO ENSURE A FAIR ELECTION, VOTERS' PARTICULARS WILL BE CHECKED BEFORE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE. AS A FURTHER MEASURE, THE NUMBER OF VOTERS AT A POLLING STATION WILL BE LIMITED SO THAT IMPERSONATION CAN EASILY BE CHECKED. IN RURAL AREAS, ONLY 500 VOTERS WILL BE ALLOWED, WHILE IN URBAN AREAS THE NUMBER WILL BE 1,000.
