    LIBERIAN VICE-PRESIDENT WILLIAM TOLBERT, ACTING SECRETARY OF EDUCATION MR SAMUEL DENNIS AND DR ROCHEFORTE WEEKS, UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT, WERE ON HAND TO GREET DR AZIKIWE WAS HE ARRIVED WITH LIBERIAN PRESIDENT WILLIAM TUBMAN.

    IN CONFERRING THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF LAWS ON DR AZIKIWE, DR. ROCHEFORTE WEEKS DESCRIBED HIS AS A MAN WHO HAD FOUGHT TO BRING TO FRUITION HIS DREAM OF A UNITED NIGERIA WHERE ALL ALIKE COULD ENJOY THE BLESSING OF FREEDOM TO DEVELOP THEMSELVES AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELL-BEING OF SOCIETY.

    DR WEEKS CONTINUED THAT THE HONOURARY DEGREE WAS ONLY BESTOWED UPON EMINENT PERSONALITIES WHO HAVE DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.

    AFTER PRESIDENT TUBMAN MADE THE PRESENTATION, DR AZIKIWE RESPONDED BY DESCRIBING THE LIBERIAN UNIVERSITY A SATELLITE REFLECTING THE IDEALS AND PRINCIPLES OF JUSTICE. LIBERTY AND FREEDOM WERE ENSHRINED IN THE MOTTO OF LIBERIA, HE SAID, POINTING OUT ALSO THAT LIBERIA WAS A FOUNDER-MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS AFTER WORLD WAR ONE.
