    THE MOSLEM FESTIVAL OF RAMADAN IS A PERIOD OF FASTING FOR THE FAITHFUL, DURING WHICH THEY ARE FORBIDDEN TO EAT OR TAKE PARTY IN FESTIVITIES BETWEEN THE HOURS OF SUNRISE AND SUNSET.

    AT YESTERDAY'S CEREMONIES IN NOUAKCHOTT MARKING THE END OF THE FAST PERIOD; SOME SEVEN THOUSAND MOSLEMS WERE LED IN PRAYER FOR THE IMAM OF MAURITANIA.

    WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE MOSQUE WHERE THE CROWDS WERE GATHERED, PRESIDENT OULD DADDAH GREETED THE AMBASSADORS OF THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC AND SYRIA.
