    THE PEOPLE OF GHANA HAVE TAKEN DELIVERY OF THE FIRST CONSIGNMENT OF A GIFT OF 440,000 BAGS OF FLOUR FROM THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT. THE FLOUR WAS PRESENTED DURING A CEREMONY IN TEMA HARBOUR, ACCRA, LAST WEEK.

    THE GIFT WAS RECEIVED BY THE GHANAIAN COMMISSIONER FOR ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, MR. E.N. OMABOE, AND THE CEREMONY WAS ATTENDED BY THE ACTING CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER, MR. DERRY.

    THE FIRST CONSIGNMENT, OF ABOUT 110,000 BAGS, WAS LOADED OFF THE BLACK STAR LINE SHIP KORLE LAGOON. THE GIFT -- AND A SIMILAR AMOUNT SENT IN JULY LAST YEAR -- COMES TO GHANA UNDER THE CANADA-GHANA AID PROGRAMME.

    IN HIS SPEECH AT THE CEREMONY, MR. OMABOE SAID THE PEOPLE OF GHANA WERE PROUD THAT CANADIAN HAD SINCE AGAIN COME TO GHANA'S AID DURING DIFFICULT TIMES. HE SAID THE GIFTS OF FLOUR WERE ADDITIONAL TO OTHER ASSISTANCE CANADA HAS BEEN OFFERING GHANA.

    MR. DERRY SAID IT WAS CANADA'S PLEASURE TO BE ABLE TO HELP GHANA, PARTICULARLY DURING DIFFICULT TIMES. AFTER THE CEREMONY MR. OMABOE AND OTHER OFFICIALS WENT ON BOARD THE SHIP; WHERE THEY TOASTED CONTINUED CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.
