  • Description

Doctor John Hannah, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development yesterday (Saturday, October 3) concluded a three-day visit to Ethiopia to inspect various development projects.

On Friday, Doctor Hannah travelled to Dire Dawa in Harr Province to visit the Alemaya Agricultural College which was established with support from the United States. The college is a major agricultural research centre in Africa with the specific aim of improving agriculture throughout Ethiopia.

Under its aid programme, the United States Agency for International Development has provided finance for development of the college and made available agricultural experts as instructors and staff, until such time as there are sufficiently trained Ethiopians to run the college.

Doctor Hannah also inspected nearby cooperative farming enterprises being organised for peasant farmers to produce mainly vegetables and grain. The visiting American official was later received in audience by the Emperor, Haile Selassie.
