    Mr. Robert Mc Namara, President of the World Bank, arrived at Lungi Airport, Freetown, on Sunday (14 January) to start a three-day fact-finding mission.

    Mr. McNamara was recently ensured a second five-year term as President of the World Bank. During his term of office, Mr. McNamara has doubled the World Banks rate of lending to over GBP100,000 million a year, just as he promised three years ago.

    Mr. McNamara was in Sierra Leone to explore ways and means of helping to create a better productive life in the country. He told reporters that the World Bank was ready to help in Sierra Leona's development. So far the Bank's investment in Sierra Leone has been relatively modest - a total of about GBP5.5 million Sterling, in the past eight years, for the expansion of the country's electricity system, education, roads and agriculture.

    Having met government ministers, Mr. and Mrs. McNamara were taken to the airport's VIP lounge. Mr. McNamara was recently ensured a second five-year term as President of the World Bank. During his term of office he has doubled the Bank's lending rate to over 100-thousand-million pounds a year.

    During his three-day stay in Sierra Leone, Mr. McNamara was to visit diamond mining areas and agricultural projects financed by the World Bank.
