    MRS GANDHI: "We in India have no bad relations (indistinct). We admire him for what he has stood for and stands for today. Some of those things have been said to you by the Lord Mayor. We admire his also, for, in spite of the oppositions which the building of a new country involves, for feeling for the troubles of other people. Of lending a helping hand to Namibians in their struggle for freedom. There is no doubt that Zambia has had to bear the brunt of (indistinct). The people have had to bear considerable hardships. In this they have the sympathy of help Indian people. Our own stand, as you know, has been long and consistent. Each has its own freedom struggles"



    Mrs. Gandhi has been on a 10 day tour of East Africa to talk about the Rhodesian and Namibian situations as well as India's relations with African countries.

    Background: As Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi left the Zambian capital, Lusaka, on Sunday (17 October) she and Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda jointly called on South Africa to withdraw its troops from Namibia. Mrs. Gandhi was concluding a four day official visit to Zambia during which majority rule for Rhodesian and freedom for namibia were high on the agenda of talks she had with Mr. Kaunda.

    SYNOPSIS: During her stay the Indian leader attended many official functions. At a reception in her honour at Lusaka Nakatindi Hall she spoke about the struggle for freedom.
