    A former American intelligence Officer in Vietnam has said on television that both the South Vietnamese and American government were involved in the military overthrow of Cambodian leader Prince Sihanouk last march.

    Capt. Robert Marasco, a former Green Beret officer and one of the central figures in last year's trial of several special forces officers for the murder of a South Vietnamese agent, made the statement in New York on Tuesday (2 June) during a public affairs programme called first Tuesday.

    Mr. Marasco said that special forces intelligence agents in Cambodia discovered that Prince Sihanouk was holding secret meetings with the North Vietnamese and Vietcong before his downfall. He also spoke about why the Cambodian leader was being watched:
