ON SUNDAY SOME 2,000 FILIPINOS TOOK PART IN A DEMONSTRATION HELD IN ANGELES CITY, MANILA, IN PROTEST AGAINST ALLEGED AMERICAN KILLINGS OF ABOUT 30 FILIPINO PILFERERS IN AND OFF U.S. BASES IN THE PHILIPPINES.

DEMONSTRATORS DEMANDED THE IMMEDIATE RE-NEGOTIATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF PHILIPPINES -- UNITED STATES' AGREEMENT ON BASES AND THE CHECKING OF KEY AMERICAN PERSONNEL BEFORE THEY WERE ASSIGNED TO THE PHILIPPINES. THEY DEMANDED JUSTICE FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE KILLED.

SPEAKERS AT THE THREE HOUR-LONG DEMONSTRATIONS WERE CARLOS SANDICO JR., LEADER OF THE MUNICIPAL BOARD, AND JOSE SISON, CHAIRMAN OF THE KABATAANG MAKABAYAN. THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED PLACARDS READING "REMOVE ALL BASES" AND "REVISE BASES TREATY".

AN EFFIGY OF THE AMERICAN AMBASSADOR TO THE PHILIPPINES, WILLIAM MCORMIC BLAIR, WAS ALSO BURNED. THE FILIPINOS ALLEGED THAT WILLIAM BLAIR JR. HAD INVENTED A STORY ABOUT TWO FILIPINOS ATTEMPTING TO KILL SOME 700 AMERICAN CHILDREN.
