    SYNOPSIS: The Penguins had not beaten Chicago in four previous outings this season as the Blackhawks were seeking to gain ground on Philadelphia. Blaine Stoughton gave Pittsburgh the lead six minutes into the opening period on a drive past Tony Esposito.

    Some four minutes later, Chicago was working against Penguin goalie Gary Inness when Cliff Koroll laid down a drop for Stan Mikita who tied the score.....

    Only one goal was scored in the middle period...this by Balckhawk defenseman
    Dick Redmond who converted from 30 feet. Chicago took a 2 to 1 lead into the ??? period.

    The final period was less than a minute old when Pittsburgh's Lowell Mc Donald stole the puck from Pit Martin and tied the score on the breakaway.

    Five minutes later, Chicago was shorthanded when Chico Maki got the puck from Bob Paradise and left it for Mikita who scored his second goal of the nigh....
    The score was tied three to three with under four minutes left when Chicago struck twice to sew up their 26th win...Jim Pappin getting the godhead score.....

    And, with Pittsburgh caught in their own end, a steal by Mikie who shifted gears a couple of times before scoring his 16th career hat trick....The Blackhawks with the 5-3 victory remain six points behind the Flyers in the NHL west. Jd. nbc news. chi
