The President of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Mr. Roberto Holden?
The President of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Mr. Roberto Holden has told newsmen in Kinshasa, Zaire, that he is optimistic about unity between the liberation factions in Angola. He said the recent conference of representatives from the liberation movements with the Presidents of four african nations had gone a long way towards ending the fued within their ranks. Mr. Holden said that the task hadn't been easy and the help of the four Presidents (leaders of Zaire, Congo-Brazzaville, Zambia and Tanzania) had helped.
The conference decided a common front should be formed between the liberation movements. It was stated that fighting within the ranks of the FNLA should be stopped so greater pressure could be applied on Portugal for full independence.
But only days after the conference agreement, fighting broke out in Luanda between rival factions of the independence movements.
